With so many double strollers available which one do you need?

Overwhelming, I know.

Becoming a parent changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. I was expecting the sleepless nights, terrible twos, which by the way was a breeze compared to the tantrum threes. The social life that goes out the window and all the normal things that other parents warn you about when they hear you are about to become a mom.

What I didn’t expect though was the depth of the love and bond between a mother and a child. People always tell you that the bond between a mother and her child is special, but nothing will ever prepare you for how amazingly special and deep it actually is.

My son who is almost four years old, is my everything, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him, he is my reason for living and since he arrived, for the first time my life has made sense. He has given me the gift of being a mother, and I will always treasure every second we spend together.

I take my role as a mom extremely seriously and always strive to do what is best for him. And make sure that I purchase the best quality baby products that my budget allows for him. That is why I have decided to dedicate my time to helping other moms make important decisions like what stroller to purchase. By reviewing my favorites, the process is simplified for you giving you more time to spend with your children.

For your convenience, I have put together a list of the different types of Double strollers, and chosen my favorite one in each category.

Before you can choose the best double stroller, you need to understand what types of double strollers are available and what are the pros and cons of each style. Once you know the difference, you can make an informed decision based on which is best suited to your needs and lifestyle.

The first one I will look at is the side by side double stroller, the advantages of this style is that if you have twins or children of different ages they can be next to each other so they can easily entertain each other. If your little ones tend to squabble a lot like my son and nephew then maybe a tandem style double stroller will be better for you.

Chicco Echo Double Stroller Side by Side

Chicco Echo Double Stroller Side by Side

As a compact and practical double side by side stroller for everyday use, the chicco echo ticks all the boxes. Its umbrella like fold is what makes it great for quick trips to the store, fits in small trunk with minimal hassle.

Pros:
– Compact fold and carry handle suitable for travel
– Suitable for infants and toddlers from 6 months to 40lbs
– Reclining seats

Price & Reviews

Cons:
– Doesn’t accept car seat
– Some moms find it slightly heavy

In comparison to other double strollers, I don’t think it is heavy at all, but that will differ from mom to mom, the umbrella-like fold makes it perfect for airplane travel. This is a no nonsense, what you see is what you get stroller, it has all the basic features that you will look for in a double stroller. It seems as though Chicco decided not to overthink it and over accessorize it, and give you a double stroller for under $200 that still caters for your children’s safety or comfort. I am quite impressed with this stroller, when I look at it, I see convenience which is a great thing.

The next style is the double sit n stand stroller, the advantages of a sit and stand stroller are that most of them are tandem style with one child behind the other, perfect to keep sibling rivalry to the minimum while out and about. Tandem strollers are in general lighter and more compact than side by side strollers and are much easier to push, much more practical for daily use in shopping malls.

Joovy Caboose ultralight Double Stroller Sit and Stand

Joovy Caboose ultralight Double Stroller Sit and Stand

Joovy is one of my all-time favorite brands, based on looks alone, all their strollers have, large canopies, modern designs and are available in blue, black, green and orange.

The caboose offers you a double sit and stand stroller perfect for an infant and toddler. It weighs a mere 21 lbs making it one of the lightest tandem double strollers available.

Pros:
– Easy trigger fold design for compact fold
– 4 wheel suspension
– Second toddler seat can be purchased separately
– Parent organizer

Price & Reviews

Cons:
– No snack tray for the rear seat

Your purchase includes a universal car seat adapter which allows you to easily fit an infant car seat to the front seat for your newborn. The car seat adapter is compatible with car seats from the following major brands, Baby Trend, Britax, Chicco, Compass, Combi, Evenflo, Graco, Maxi Cosi, Peg Perego and Safety 1st. If your toddler is taller than average like mine, then this is a great option for you.

Side by side and Tandem are your two main types of double strollers, from here we look at the different combinations and options that are available. The next double stroller is a side by side jogging stroller not suited for newborns but perfect for running with infants and toddlers.

InStep Flash Fixed Wheel Double stroller for Infants and Toddlers

InStep Flash Fixed Wheel Double stroller for Infants and Toddlers

I am by no means a jogger, but this stroller makes me want to be one, it’s sexy, stylish and will keep you one step ahead of the pack. A perfect double stroller for infants and toddlers.

Pros:
– Large 16” wheels
– Bicycle style hand operated brake
– Reclining seats
– Up to 50lbs weight limit per seat

Price & Reviews

Cons:
– Not recommended for everyday use

The Instep Flash has a fixed front wheel which makes it the perfect stroller for running. However, it ‘s hard to manoeuvre while shopping. It is not compatible with any car seats or bassinet, so it is not for newborns. (I wouldn’t jog with a newborn anyway) All in all one of the best joggers I have found with high ratings and great reviews

If you need a double stroller that can accommodate newborns, infants and toddlers then a double stroller compatible with car seat is ideal. If you look hard enough, you may find one that comes with car seat included but for the most part, you will need to purchase a car seat separately.

Britax 2015 B-Agile Double Stroller with car seat

Double Stroller with car seat

Suitable for twins or similar aged siblings you can’t go wrong with the B-Agile, it offers you everything you want and more. A must see double stroller with car seat.

Pros:
– Huge adjustable canopies provide great sun cover
– Height adjustable handles suitable for short and tall parents
– Seats can recline flat

Price & Reviews

Cons:
– Only accepts one infant car seat
– Only compatible with Britax car seat

It comes in other colors as well, but I love the bright red and black combo. The stroller comes complete with the click and go system to fit infant car seat. Not much not to like on this stroller a snack tray would be nice, but I am willing to overlook that because it offers you so many other great features.

If you have newborn or infant twins a double stroller that is a complete travel system is the way to go. Again it is not easy to find a stroller with car seats sold as a set. A travel system complete set offers you flexibility all in one purchase.

The fact that purchasing this double stroller with car seat combo saves me hours of looking for compatible parts is not the only reason why

Cons:
– The seats are slightly narrow, but with a total width of 32.5” it is expected

With multi-position reclining seat and adjustable shade canopies, with all terrain wheels, your little ones will be traveling in style while you are jogging to the beat of your favorite songs on your mp3 player.

While we are still looking at double strollers travel systems with car seats, another great option is:

The last double stroller I will look at in detail is a double stroller with bassinet, perfect for your newborn.

UPPAbaby 2015 Vista Double Stroller with Bassinet Included

Double Stroller with Bassinet Included

This double stroller with bassinet oozes luxury and sophistication and takes flexibility and sophistication to a new level

For your newborn you can attach the bassinet or pram using which has a sunshade included, using only one hand you can detach it and you have an infant carrier or carry cot.

For your infant, you can attach one car seat or for infant twins two car seats, they can either be front or rear facing.

Plus you can add a sit and stand option for your toddler or older child by purchasing a riding board, which will easily accommodate a third child.

Pros:
– Front or rear facing toddler seat
– Removable seats
– Front and rear wheel suspension

Price & Reviews

Cons:
– Maybe a bit heavy for some moms

This stroller is quite pricey, but if I could afford it, I wouldn’t think twice because it is worth every cent.

The double strollers I have mentioned here are only a few of my favorites. However, many others are amazing strollers and in the very least warrant a mention, the baby jogger city select, baby trend sit and stand, city mini GT, mountain buggy duo, summit x3, contours elite, let’s not forget the Graco ready to grow and the Bob duallie.

Some of these strollers are so versatile they will last your children from newborn until they no longer need a stroller but you need to think of your stroller as your child’s car, if you don’t service and maintain your vehicle it will deteriorate and quickly start breaking down and giving you hassles. The same applies to your stroller make sure you maintain your stroller on a regular basis.

A few maintenance tips are:
– Inspect the wheels on a monthly basis
– Use a soft brush to keep wheels free of dust and sand and stones
– Lubricate your wheels when necessary using a silicone base lubricant

To keep your stroller looking good as new, wash the seats and frame, some of the strollers have removable seat pads or covers that are machine washable.

This may sound like a tedious task to some but to me, it is of utmost importance, faulty wheels can be extremely dangerous and put your children at risk, and I for one don’t want that.

Children’s safety is number one in my book.I often see advertisements for second-hand strollers, car seats and bassinets that are for sale either online or at yard sales. I may be overly cautious, but I would prefer to buy a new stroller as you don’t know the history of a used stroller and whether it has been in an accident or not. Especially important with car seats. There are enough cheap options of new strollers like kolcraft and Delta that can offer you excellent quality, so I don’t see the need to risk purchasing a used stroller or travel system.

There are many types and styles of strollers on the market today (there are even bike trailer strollers. That up until today I had no idea even existed. Just goes to show you are never too old to learn) enough to make your head spin but I guarantee you the perfect stroller is out there for you. One that will be a part of your life for many years to come and give you many, many happy hours of strolling or jogging. All you have to do is Take a breathe, relax and choose wisely.
